"What do you believe to be truth?" Survey

In the interest of starting an entertaining discussion (things have been a little slow around here lately) I wanted to ask everyone to participate in an informal survey. The objective is quite simple:

List five to ten things that you believe to be truths in the present moment of your life.

Assume that you are on your deathbed at this very moment:

  • What has your life taught you?
  • What advice would you want to pass on to your children?
  • What is your truth?

Obviously, for the sake of community harmony, we need to keep this discussion "religion free", but anything else is fair game in this survey. I would like to ask that before you discuss another's input to this survey, that you first provide your own input.

Thanks for participating.

Actions speak louder than words

Wisdom is not as common as sense

Family matters more than ______ (Fill in the blank with whatever you are chasing)

Fear and anger take years off your life, and poisons the years you do have

and for JAG.... Peak Oil is Real! Tongue out

Don't believe everything you hear/read

Family matters first (+1 with Aaron here)

Don't just talk about it.....  DO IT!

Waste nothing

Never measure something's value with money

If it sounds too good to be true, it is!

Stick to your principles, no matter what.

Integrity counts for way more than credibility. Once you have integrity, credibility comes naturally.

The planet's warming!  :-)

Oil's running out fast!

Oh, fun thread JAG!   Here we go:

The best way to solve  a problem is to avoid it in the first place.

The little things in life are the big things.

Treat others as you would have them treat you.  Unless they mess with you.

There are no guarantees in life.

Cherish what and who you have in your life now.

   Friends are the best.

I can't participate because ******** may not be discussed.   When I look at what has happened to our nation, now I understand.  Sadly.

Re: "What do you believe to be truth?" Survey

Once I recognize that my mental presentations about external reality are based solely on my past experiences, I know that I cannot observe external reality as it is, but can recognize reality only according to the levels of subjectivy of my relative mind.

As long as I believe that my subjective perceptions of external phenomena are real, attachments will accumulate in my relative mind.

Once I recognize that my perceptions of external phenomena depend entirely on my subjectivity, phenomena cease to produce attachments in my relative mind.

While I doubt you meant it, you flatter me sir. That is, of course, if you are mistaking me for Aaron Moyer, and not Aaron Spelling.

Mike, this is the first compliment you have ever given me. I'll take it, even if you didn't mean it!

PS, we couldn't agree more about the oil situation, I was just poking at JAG a bit since he is less than 100% convinced.

True happiness comes from within and can never be obtained through "things"

Most things are not as they first seem, especially everything (that's an attempted Yogi Bera style observation).

True wealth and safety is measured by the % of basic necessities you yourself can harness off your own land (or trade for via surplus off your own land).

Change is everywhere and always occurring, even if you don't realize it.

If  we do not have freedom of ******* we are dead already .

1  Love is unconditional .... if there are conditions it isn't love .  *** is love .  Love does not puff itself up nor is prideful.

2 , love your father and mother

3.   do not lie, steal , or shed innocent blood

4.   do not have a heart that thinks of wicked things

5     above all else there is nothing to bad to be forgiven  if you are truly sorry  you did it and not  just sorry you got caught .

My things in no particular order

  • Everyone has their own agenda, just try to make sure your agenda's are compatible.
  • Everyone lies, sometimes about little stuff, sometimes about big stuff, the reason why they lie is more important than the lie.
  • The only person you can 100% rely on is yourself, all others fall from this exponentially, 95% reliance on family 80% reliance on close friends, 50% reliance on friends etc.
  • Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff
  • Don't take anything at face value
  • You only have one life, have fun with it, if you're not having fun think about what you're trying to achieve and why
  • I don't know what I don't know
  • Your health is your most important asset
  • Your family is your second most important asset
  • Specialism is for insects
