"The Lying Game", a powerful article by John Piger on Iran
"In 2001, the Observer in London published a series of reports that claimed an “Iraqi connection” to al-Qaeda, even describing the base in Iraq where the training of terrorists took place and a facility where anthrax was being manufactured as a weapon of mass destruction. It was all false. Supplied by US intelligence and Iraqi exiles, planted stories in the British and US media helped George Bush and Tony Blair to launch an illegal invasion which caused, according to the most recent study, 1.3 million deaths. Something similar is happening over Iran: the same syncopation of government and media “revelations”, the same manufacture of a sense of crisis. “Showdown looms with Iran over secret nuclear plant”, declared the Guardian on 26 September. “Showdown” is the theme. High noon. The clock ticking. Good versus evil........."

This is the disconnect that continually amazes me. Americans should have the best damned health care in the world – bar none, but no, money as new debt is manufactured to fund over 50 unconstitutional wars since 1945, and to whose benefit? The same corporate elites who have been bailed out with tax-payers money (newer, deeper debt) in this last year.
I know how much you love the Central Bankers (:-), and was interested to read some time ago that the banking systems of Afghanistan and Iraq have both been changed to private Central Banks (meaning privately owned).
As with all Central Banks one can not find the ownership structure – who is making the big bucks. It's all captured off-camera, quietly, while the media whips up the next round of propaganda about the next country to be conquered. The sad irony is that now these two Muslim countries who do not believe in the charging of interest (usury), are now forced into paying it at the point of a gun.
I have great respect for the author of the 'Lying Game', John Pilger. If you haven't seen any of his documentaries, would recommend, “War on Democracy” as a good place to start.
Cheers, J

John, interesting article, thanks for sharing.

From the article posted by John99:
As one of the original signatories of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, Iran has been a consistent advocate of a nuclear-free zone in the Middle East. In contrast, Israel has never agreed to an IAEA inspection, and its nuclear weapons plant at Dimona remains an open secret. Armed with as many as 200 active nuclear warheads, Israel “deplores” UN resolutions calling on it to sign the NPT. It gets away with this because great power grants it immunity.
Anyone committed to nuclear non-proliferation would want ALL nuclear states to be subject to an international inspection regime. In the U.S. media, Israeli spokespersons engage in hysterical agitation against Iran. Never are they confronted about Israel's highly-sophisticated nuclear arsenal and delivery vehicles, which exist outside of international law.
As such, all of the current 'reporting' amounts to shrieking over the little mouse creeping behind the living room armchair, whilst ignoring the nine-tonne pink elephant brassily perched on top of the same chair. Thank public education for making it possible for such risible lies to be swallowed whole as 'news.'

Yes. We got into the war for the wrong reasons, but our current president does not seem to be as gung ho about getting us out, as he was on the campaign trail.
Also to Machineheads point: Notice how the Mainstream Media is daily pushing for BP to drill more deep water wells to "relieve" the pressure on the leaking well. The masses will be nodding approvingly when BP sinks 2 more wells right beside the leaking one.

Hi John,
It must have been around the time I was off line last year when you posted this, but you found one of my all time hero's! Thankyou for posting this article. His history goes back a long long way, and his knowledge and experience of the frontline as a journalist has warranted much respect around the world, and not just Australia. Where do I begin!!!
John Richard Pilger (born 9 October 1939) is an Australian journalist and documentary maker, based in London. He has twice won Britain's Journalist of the Year Award, and his documentaries have received academy awards in Britain and the US. Noam Chomsky said of Pilger: "John Pilger's work has been a beacon of light in often dark times. The realities he has brought to light have been a revelation, over and over again, and his courage and insight a constant inspiration." In Breaking the Silence: The Television Reporting of John Pilger, his appraisal of the journalist's documentaries, Anthony Hayward wrote, "For more than a generation, he has been an ever stronger voice for those without a voice and a thorn in the side of authority, the Establishment. His work, particularly his television documentaries, has also made him rare in being a journalist who is universally known, a champion of those for whom he fights and the scourge of politicians and others whose actions he exposes."
Part 2 ~ Part 3 ~ Part 4 ~ Part 5
Buy his detailed book, Freedom Next Time: Resisting The Empire, I couldn't find a pdf version. Failing purchase, watch this lecture: -

I sense you guess this is but the tip of an iceberg ... ?

John - You always bring something good to the table. I think the executive branch of our government (doesn't matter if it's bush, obama or whoever) has shown why only congress must exclusively have the power to wage war. One man's hunch or preference is a dictatorship, that's why we have (had) divided powers.
Did you notice that the U.S. anti-war movement ended as soon as Obama got in office? No matter how broke we are, we always seem to be able to afford expensive wars that have no clear enemy or conclusion.
The American people have no say, if the Iran war happens, it will be by executive order. How will Russia and China react; Iran has been an "observer nation" of the SCO (Shanghai Cooperation Organization) and last year they applied for full membership. The SCO is becoming a NATO counter weight - why are we drawing the line? The risks go beyond the price of oil and economics.
