You may want to read Chris' excellent Martenson Report entitled, "The Six Stages of Awareness."  Stage One is Denial.  This is going to be common for just about everyone.  Maybe your brother-in-law, attempting to invent a hydrogen engine, is at Stage Three: Bargaining.  Each person has to progress through acceptance at their own pace.

We cannot change the thinking of others, we can only offer information to help enlighten.  Ultimately it is up to each of us to accept (and own) change for ourselves.  Watching the Crash Course can be overwhelming for those who have never considered its ideas before.  Give them some time to let it all sink in.

As this life we know unravels and times truly begin to change, people will have a choice "red pill" or "blue pill".  Most take the blue pill.  It is not just denial but total fear that what they have known and what 3 generations of their family has known is at an end.  They fear losing their standard of living, their toys, their feeling of superiority, their feeling of control and most of all their comfort.

From this summer till around 2013 the changes in the world we know with regard to socio-political systems, economics, environment, families, country boundaries and alliances, and a host of other currently assumed models or systems is about to change.  The end of humanity, no, but a enormous phase change.  How exactly this change will end up, well, that is up to all of us.  All I know is that the change is coming and there is not a darn thing you or I can do about it. 

Your family had the same reaction that mine did about taking the red pill.  They will come along and get it over the next year.  Once they do, be ready with knowledge they will need to help all of you survive the time to come.  It will be tough, some will just want you to do all the work so they can have comfort, but in the end they will follow.

Thankyou Ron and Mpelchat, because I had been thinking for years off my own bat that our life support systems were no longer based in the sun (sun-earth-water has become oil-real estate-money), watching the Crash Course was a confirmation not a total surprise. Its hard hitting but one feels jubilant and liberated at the same time. Also, I never liked the world the way it was, I hate this workaday thing and I hate watching people have to go to work, so for it all to come tumbling down is a blessing. You are so right, for some people its not seen as a blessing.

Thanks for pointing me to those 6 stages of awareness. Will help me in my dealings with everyone I'm going to show the Crash Course to (hopefully a lot of people!)

As soon as I became aware of and viewed TCC I began not only preparing for this new reality but telling EVERYONE I could.  All the people I told about TCC and CM I asked them to "get back to me and let me know what you think" and most of them I followed up with to see if they went to CM.  Most (99%) never did and of the 1% that have gone to CM and viewed TCC they have not said a single thing in response.  This is polar opposite to my initial response and I am dumbfounded. This is sad because I have much to share both in advise and in tangible items but I keep all this for my family because no one I know (except the friends who initially shared CM with us) wants what we have to offer or their not communicating.   I still tell everyone (hair cutter, banker, cleaners, cashier at grocery store, etc. etc.) about CM/TCC and I will continue to do so because A. People need to know  B. I know I have done everything I can as things are now unfolding.  C. I will more and more be able to focus on my family as circumstances warrant and eventually focus solely on providing for my family, knowing that I did everything I could to warn as many people as I humanly could. 

I feel like Noah before the flood.  Thats the best way I know to describe it.  As suffering continues to unfold I will need to know I did everything I could for others to help them prepare.  What I do for others while suffering unfolds and as things increase, I'm not sure.  I would like to think I will rise above circumstances and still sacrifice for others but that will all depend on what is required and at whose expense. 

Keep in mind that those same people who are not preparing, will to some degree, be aware that you have prepared and they may come knocking at your door when they are in need.  Be careful about any details you share until you know for sure there is like mindedness.

I'm speaking as someone who lives in the city and I have shared with neighbors.  Our family all live 2 thousand miles away so all we have are our neighbors and close friends.  Unfortunately, none of our neighbors are communicating about any of this so we are thankful for the close friends who are like minded and actually the ones who initially share CM/TCC with us.  Peak everything may not be the immediate threat, also keep in mind that Swine Flu has not gone away and it is NOT behaving like seasonal flu because it isn't seasonal flu!  If you want to know more, LATOC has a Swine Flu thread going with daily updates and as always, I'm happy to share what I know.

Hey Rocketgirl, its nice to swap these stories cos it helps form a picture. I just read Orlov's Definancialisation, deglobalisation, relocalisation, and its really helped me develop a devil may care attitude. One of my friends, my best friend, told me that if it comes to collapse she will commit suicide! She says this to kill the topic, no point discussing it cos she's going to just shoot herself. The first few times she came back at me with this I was stunned, shocked etc that she wasn't even interested in discussion. Now I feel that if that's what she or anyone wants to do, go ahead, a lot of people are going to be dying anyway. Sad to say I see less of her now, and more of another friend who discusses and reads and is also jubilant that things are going to change. I can't *think* of anything else and find the ones who have an outright moratorium against these discussions to be boring. Nevertheless I still love them and see them, but theres that polarisation. Frankly, without the end of oil (and money etc), I wouldn't find life worth living. I hate the rat race. Other people are on the opposite end, without oil to zoom around and money and things, they don't think they'll find life worth living.

So far as preparation goes, in the end I got the family to let me plant some fruit trees, and I planted in my friends gardens as well. Then I started buying trees and giving them away, but the big problem with that was that no one wanted to dig the hole. They'd take the tree and when I saw them again I"d hear it had withered in the bag or they forgot(!) where they put it. This really does seem to be a solo trip, even after hearing and reading the benefits of having a nice crowd around you.

I've wood panelled my place (its a converted garage) to make it look like a school, ordered the DVD and next step is projector or dvd tv, and I'm going to put regular ads in the local paper offering showings. Jeepers, this is not something for the back burner! Thanks to the responses to this post I know now to print out the 6 stages of awareness to hand out after, along with some other info. I've got ring binders full of prints of articles from blogs and news sites as well as newspaper articles. Will need to review them to see which are best to provide after the viewing. If possible I'd like to have a kind of collapse club, where we get together and discuss things, weekly or every two weeks, also to check on people that they ok. I can't wait for everything to be in place to start this, hopefully one more month.

Katie, What kind of super dooper vitamins are you on girl?  I'll have one of what ever she's having and you can fill my pantry too.  The only other thing I would like to add is, KEEP GOING but if what feeds you is the feeling you get from helping others and they let you know they don't think your helping them then you're going to get burned out.  What you're doing has to come from a place of purpose regardless of reactions or you won't last.  There's no question you're passionate (wooly sh!t) and rightfully so but make sure everyday you center yourself with your purpose.

What you say is so right. I've been preparing to spread the news for ages now, created the environment and even making a suit so that people would respect me and thus the message, but at the last minute something inside me whispers.. why bother? Does feel like pushing uphill, with 95% on the broad way, maybe its meant to be that way. Maybe only a few are meant to understand and survive - if understanding predisposes to survival. You talk about helping people but one wonders how much spreading the word does help - I spontaneously realised a few years ago that our artificial life support was going to terminate and we with it, it was 3 years later a friend who had always thought I was wasting my life preparing for the end of electricity came across LATOC and put me onto Peak Oil. Surely all tuned in people have similar spontaneous realisations? Yes on the eve of jumping on the launch pad I'm questioning everything. I've built this 'school', prepared to surround myself with similarly philosophically minded, and now I'm feeling like its going to be a lot of work with who knows what result.. perhaps more polarisation with the majority at the opposite pole. I'm wondering how to word the advertisement, what kind of people it will attract. And what difference it will make.

The fantastic purpose behind the fruit trees is that, being a real fruitarian, that is I just eat fruit and am in excellent health (with a lot of energy), fruit trees are the perfect solution. Go back to Eden, re-aforest the environment, bypass the shops and the kitchen. Next door is a township and one of the trees I gave away was planted there and when it was stolen(!) out the ground I was incredibly heartened, thinking 'these guys appreciate free food', but the further trees I gave in that direction - received with such enthusiasm - never made it into the ground. I would love to live in or near a fruit tree forest, wouldn't anyone? I would love children to not be hungry but just run to a tree laden with sweetness. The township is called Zwelihle which means Beautiful Place, but isn't, and trees amongst the shacks would really help. 

Yup discouragement and burn out possibilities abound.

This site was recommended on another message board and I immediately began watching Dr. Martenson's video's.  The Crash Course is very enlightening and I find it remarkable that someone as knowledgable as Dr. Chris would expend so much time and energy, not to mention the expense, to teach other people how to examine the past, understand the events of today and prepare for the future.  I have recommended this web site to family and friends and to my dismay, as far as I know, none of them has watched the course.  There is a wealth of information available on this web site from everyone. 

I have done what I can and continue to do what I can to prepare for tomorrow.  I am retired on a fixed income and my options are what they are, but as someone posted, knowledge is power.  I will continue to suggest Dr. Chris' Crash Course, and all that take my advice will appreciate what they learn here as much as I do.

If you hearken back to "The Matrix" (the first one...the two sequels were a tad underwhelming IMO), and the scene where Morpheus is talking to Neo in the "Lady in Red" training simulation he says "most of these people don't wan't to wake up.  They'd rather die than leave the Matrix."  (I'm paraphrasing here)

Not everybody is a Trinity, or Switch, Morpheus or Neo.  

And FWIW, "The Matrix" is one of the finest metaphors around for this whole process of finding the CC, coming to terms with the reality of things, and figuring out what to do (apart from all the shooting and EMP-ing the Squiddies ).  

I think the trick is to cast as wide a net as one can -- maybe only 1 person in 100 is ready and willing.  And hunt around for other folks who are already out of the Matrix.  They're there, but may be hard to find -- they're all busy getting ready.  [smile]  Keep your chin up!
