Documentaries recommended by the CM community
People have been providing various references to interesting documentary movies related to the topics discussed on this site through out the various forum topics here. I recently happened to watch two such documentaries and wanted to recommend it for any new CM visitor interested in watching more such topics (both for themselves and for spreading awareness to their friends).
I also realized there are a whole lot of documentaries that are very interesting but I probably won't have the time to watch them. Put it another way, if people are willing to review, it would help us all overall in deciding which ones to watch.
Here's my three recommendations to begin with:
"What a way to go: Life at the end of the Empire" - http://www.whatawaytogomovie.com/
"End of suburbia" - http://www.endofsuburbia.com/
"A Crude Awakening" a.k.a. "Oil Crash Movie" - http://www.oilcrashmovie.com/
What are your recommendations?
I would add `power of community` - about post- Iron curtain Cuba, who seemed to make all the right moves after the oil supply abruptly ran out:
-Zeitgeist
-Zeitgeist Addendum
-A Crude Awakening
-Story of Stuff
-Global Gardener Series
-What a Way to Go
-Gardening Australia
-The Power of Community
-Hyperspace (okay these are frivolous; but I like them a lot
)
-Magnetic Storm
-Elegant Universe
-All IMAX films
-Walmart
-Iraq For Sale
caroline Nothing is more dangerous than a *dogmatic* worldview - nothing more constraining, more blinding to innovation, more destructive of openness to novelty. ~Stephen Jay Gould When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary *dogma*, we become automatons. We cease to grow. ~Anais Nin Most of the *dogmatic* religions have exhibited a perverse talent for taking the wrong side on the most important concepts in the material universe, from the structure of the solar system to the origin of man. ~George Gaylord Simpson When distant and unfamiliar and complex things are communicated to great masses of people, the truth suffers a considerable and often a radical distortion. The complex is made over into the simple, the hypothetical into the *dogmatic*, and the relative into an absolute. ~Walter Lippmann
WINNER OF 26 INTERNATIONAL AWARDS! 10 Audience Choice Awards including the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
Provoking, witty, stylish and sweepingly informative, THE CORPORATION explores the nature and spectacular rise of the dominant institution of our time. Part film and part movement, The Corporation is transforming audiences and dazzling critics with its insightful and compelling analysis. Taking its status as a legal "person" to the logical conclusion, the film puts the corporation on the psychiatrist's couch to ask "What kind of person is it?" The Corporation includes interviews with 40 corporate insiders and critics - including Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Milton Friedman, Howard Zinn, Vandana Shiva and Michael Moore - plus true confessions, case studies and strategies for change.

"The Great Dance"
A couple of filmmakers hang out with some african tribesmen who are quite traditional. It really sets the standard for community, connection to the land, and sustainability.
Its hard to find, but well worth the watch.
Peace, Liam
