Peter Schiff vs. Michael Moore

With the future bringing diminishing energy and resources, distributed and localized systems are a much more feasible way to go forward. These systems would be much more resistant to systemic shocks and sudden supply disruptions for essential goods and services.

The post itself discusses more on the ideological differences that lie between capitalism and socialism. Also highlights the need to find common ground among the people that understand today's predicaments of the economic system.

the main problem with the globe

I picked this item from the 6/6 DD where I was going to reply, but thought it deserved its own thread.....

I read this last night before going to bed (local Australian time..) and gave it a lot of thought....  and I hope this post doesn't turn into a long rambling raving discourse, because in my opinion this statement just over simplifies things.  Remember, we live in a complex world..

Economies are the systems by which humans create and distribute wealth. Economics is a set of philosophies, ideas, equations, and assumptions that describe how all of this does, or should, work.

The first economists were ancient Greek and Indian philosophers, among them Aristotle (382-322 BC)—who discussed the “art” of wealth acquisition and questioned whether property should best be owned privately or by government acting on behalf of the people. Little of real substance was added to the discussion during the next two thousand years.  read more »

Something New . . .

I'm not really sure, but I'm probably one of the younger members of this site. I'm 25, a US citizen, and I'm currently teaching English in Warsaw, Poland (I've also worked for a large corporation and I run a small online business on the side). I get the sense that many of the people writing new threads and comments have accomplished quite a bit in their lives and they may be a bit older than me. I wanted to bring something forward which I feel is important and I don't see being discussed much.


What do people think about a new system?
